Fun Fishy Fact:
Whales are divided into two suborders: baleen and toothed whales. Baleen whales have a comb-like fringe, called a baleen, on the upper jaw, which is used to filter plankton, as well as small fish and crustaceans. Toothed whales have teeth and prey on fish, squid, other whales and marine mammals. They sense their surrounding environment through echolocation.
About the Art:
Working with mostly 14-16 gauge raw steel, Fred cuts and welds the metal to create sea life, bringing an aquatic feel to homes, offices, and gardens. He often begins the rust process to give a more weathered appearance and to enhance the contours and shapes of a piece. No two pieces are ever the same, (so yours is one of a kind!), and variations in color and texture add to the overall character of his work. The whale is suitable for use both inside and outdoors. If displayed outdoors, the whale will continue to rust beautifully in the elements; but If you wish to reduce further rusting, we suggest applying a clear mat lacquer which will need to be reapplied over time. We all know fish can swim any direction, and if you have a preference whether he will be swimming left to right, or right to left, please email or call us!
